OnePlus 8 Summary

OnePlus 8 is the spiritual successor to the OnePlus 7 and will eventually replace the OnePlus 7T. Build quality is excellent thanks to the curved edge of the front and back glass sandwiching the metal frame. The buttons are easy to reach, and the alert slider is as handy as ever.

The OnePlus 8 has a 6.55-inch AMOLED panel with sloping sides, a wide color gamut, and a hole-punch cutout in the upper left corner. A 90Hz refresh rate generally makes usage feel fluid and fast. It also has an in-display fingerprint sensor, which is super fast at authentication. All it takes is a quick, strong tap to unlock it.

We reviewed the top-end variant of the phone, which has 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. Gaming performance is top-notch, and Fortnite can run at 90fps and the experience is good. Games and movies are especially enjoyable thanks to the excellent stereo speakers on the OnePlus 8. OxygenOS is also equipped with tons of shortcuts and gestures waiting to be discovered. The new launcher now offers a smoother multitasking experience, 5GB of free cloud storage for backup after signing in with a OnePlus account, a built-in screen recorder, and dynamic wallpapers.

OnePlus 8 features the same 48-megapixel Sony IMX586 sensor with optical stabilization as the OnePlus 7T. In daylight, it captures detailed images with vivid colors and balanced HDR. The wide-angle camera is also useful. The third macro camera doesn’t have good clarity but it can be useful in some cases. The selfie camera was decent in good light but didn’t do well in low light.
