HMD Fusion Unveiled With Modular Design, 108-megapixel camera

HMD Fusion was unveiled at IFA 2024 as a new offering from Human Mobile Devices. The handset comes with interchangeable covers, called Smart Outfits (sold separately), that can replace the phone’s hardware and software. The HMD Fusion is powered by a Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 SoC, with up to 8GB of RAM. There is also a 108-megapixel dual rear camera setup and a 50-megapixel selfie shooter. HMD Fusion has a modular design that is easy to repair.

HMD Fusion Price

HMD Fusion is confirmed to be available in the UK soon and will have a starting price of £199 / €249. Glossy, rugged, wireless, and gaming smart outfits will be available in the second half of the year.

HMD Fusion Specifications

HMD Fusion runs on Android 14 and the company is promising two years of OS upgrades and ten years of security updates. It features a 6.56-inch HD+ (720 x 1,612 pixels) display with a 20:9 aspect ratio, 90Hz refresh rate, and up to 600 nits of peak brightness. It is powered by a Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 chip, with 8GB of RAM and up to 256GB of internal storage. The available storage can be expanded (up to 1TB) via a microSD card.

As mentioned, HMD Fusion can be used with interchangeable covers that add different functions. These smart outfits can be connected to the device through a required PIN. Organizations unlock new abilities. The flashy outfit is equipped with a built-in ring light that can be used for the front and rear cameras. It allows you to manage mood lighting and camera effects through on-device controls. The rugged wear comes with an IP68 rating and also has wireless charging support and magnets for the emergency (ICE) button. In addition, a range of casual wear with color options is also available.

As far as optics are concerned, the HMD Fusion has a dual rear camera setup, which includes a 108-megapixel main sensor with Electronic Image Stabilization (EIS) and a 2-megapixel depth sensor. On the front, there is a 50-megapixel selfie camera that comes with fixed focus.

HMD Fusion has a side-mounted fingerprint sensor and also supports the Face Unlock feature. Connectivity options include Bluetooth 5.2, GPS/AGPS, GLONASS, BDS, Galileo, OTG, USB Type-C port, and WiFi 802.11a/b/g/n/ac/ax. The sensors on the phone include an accelerometer, ambient light sensor, e-compass, gyroscope, and proximity sensor.

Like the recently launched HMD Skyline, the HMD Fusion’s battery and other components can be easily replaced by users using an iFixit kit. The phone also has an IP52-rated build.

HMD has packed a 5,000mAh battery in the Fusion that supports 33W charging. The battery unit is claimed to last up to 65 hours on a single charge. It measures 164.15×75.5×8.32mm and weighs 202.5 grams.
