Samsung previews Galaxy S25 series design, new Bixby features
There is the official date for the first Galaxy Unpacked of the new year: January 22, 2025. On that occasion, Samsung will officially present its next flagship smartphone Galaxy S25 series, namely the Galaxy S25, Galaxy S25+, and Galaxy S25 Ultra (and perhaps also the Galaxy S25 Slim version), but many new features about the next Galaxy S25 series and the Bixby assistant have already been confirmed in the last few hours.
The design of the next Galaxy S25 series
Let’s start with the design of the next Samsung Galaxy S25 series by referring to the images used for Samsung’s communication which also show the cases of the devices (which feature the wording
Designed by Samsung ). The first official images confirm several anticipations that have emerged over the past few weeks with the Galaxy S25 and Galaxy S25+ which present
slight aesthetic differences.
More significant changes, however, concern the design of the Galaxy S25 Ultra, which goes beyond the style of the Galaxy Note series, adopting a uniform look for all models in the Galaxy S series. The corners of the Galaxy S25 Ultra, however, are less rounded than the other models in the Galaxy S25 series, a more ‘angular’ design that could be motivated by the need to ensure optimal housing for the Galaxy S Pen.
From the images of the official covers for the next Galaxy S25 series, we can see a style very similar to that of Apple’s MagSafe technology, which should also allow support for Qi2 fast charging.
What the second-generation Bixby assistant will look like
A short teaser from Samsung, announcing the upcoming Galaxy Unpacked, refers to the next generation of the virtual assistant Bixby. The new version of Samsung’s voice assistant will be based, of course, on the artificial intelligence of large linguistic models (LLM) that will allow Bixby to better understand commands expressed in natural language.
It won’t be far removed, at least for now, from the recent versions of Gemini for Google and Siri for Apple. It can extract information from any web content, understand what’s happening on the device’s screen answer related questions, and even suggest what to wear based on the weather.
The new version of Bixby is currently only available in China on the Samsung W25 and Samsung W25 Flip. It will most likely be released globally with the new Galaxy S25 series and perhaps on other devices with a future update. In addition to smartphones, the new Bixby could also be integrated into other devices, such as smart home devices (TVs, refrigerators, washing machines, microwave ovens, etc.).
The news surrounding Bixby also represents a change in strategy on the part of Samsung. Only 12 months ago, when the Galaxy S24 series was launched with One UI 6 the absence of Bixby caused a lot of noise, making it clear that Samsung’s proprietary assistant was destined to disappear in favor of Google Gemini.
Now, however, Bixby seems to be back in the spotlight again, revolutionizing its functionality thanks to the possibilities of artificial intelligence.
