GTA 6 Release Date – After a long wait from fans, Rockstar Games has finally announced the official release date for
Grand Theft Auto VI (GTA 6). This information was conveyed via their official website on Friday, May 2, 2025.
“Hi everyone, Grand Theft Auto VI (GTA 6) is now set to release on May 26, 2026,” Rockstar Games wrote in
An official statement.
In addition to delivering the good news regarding the certainty of the launch date, Rockstar also expressed its apologies for the delay in the release of this game.
GTA 6 was originally planned to be released in the fall of 2025, around September this year. However, the schedule was eventually postponed to mid-2026.
Why GTA 6 Release Date Delayed?
Rockstar Games did not specifically mention the reason behind the delay. However, in their statement, they stated that the decision was made in order to deliver a game quality that exceeds fans’ expectations.
The main goal is to ensure that GTA 6 delivers the best experience possible when it launches.
Rumors about this potential delay have been circulating since late 2024. The first rumor emerged from the social media account X (formerly Twitter), which has the username @billsyliamGTA.
Shortly after, Bloomberg game journalist Jason Schreier also noted that the GTA 6 project is so large-scale and ambitious that the possibility of a release date delay was predicted from the start.

Will Be Released on Next-Gen Consoles
GTA 6 is scheduled to be released for the PlayStation 5 (PS5) and Xbox Series X/S consoles. Although it has not been officially announced, a PC version is believed to be available as well, but it will most likely be released after the console versions are launched.
First Trailer Released Since 2023
For additional information, Rockstar Games released the first GTA 6 trailer on December 5, 2023. Although the one-minute-and-twenty-second trailer does not yet show gameplay, it presents a stunning cinematic atmosphere.
The main character, Lucia, is introduced in the trailer, who appears to be in prison.
The clip is set to Tom Petty’s “ Love is a Long Road,” and features scenes such as a crowded beach, a nighttime overpass, nightclub life, and city buildings with signs that say “Vice.”
The presence of the nameplate strengthens the suspicion that the primary setting in GTA 6 is Vice City, in accordance with various leaks that have circulated previously.
