Apple iPhone 16e Unveiled: New Design, A18 Chip & In-House 5G

This past Wednesday, Apple rolled out the Apple iPhone 16e, their newest wallet-friendly option straight from Cupertino. It’s the latest addition to the Apple iPhone 16 family, rocking a vibrant 6.1-inch OLED screen and powered by the same A18 chip that’s been turning heads. The 16e doesn’t skimp on smarts either—it’s got Apple Intelligence features baked in, just like the iPhone 15 Pro that dropped in 2023 and the rest of the iPhone 16 crew from last year. With a single but mighty 48-megapixel rear camera and a handy programmable Action Button, it’s got a lot of personality for a phone that’s easy on the budget.

Apple iPhone 16e Price, Availability

Apple iPhone 16e price starts at $599 / €699 / £599 / INR 59,900 for the base model with 128GB of storage, and the phone is also available in 256GB and 512GB storage configurations that are priced at $699 / €829 / £699 / INR 69,900, and $899, €1,079 / £899 / INR 89,900, respectively.

Apple announced that the iPhone 16e will be available for pre-order starting February 21 and will go on sale on February 28. It will be sold in black and white colorways.

Apple iPhone 16e Specs, Features

The newly unveiled Apple iPhone 16e is a dual SIM (Nano+eSIM) handset that runs on iOS 18. It sports a 6.1-inch Super Retina XDR (1,170×2,532 pixels) OLED screen with a 60Hz refresh rate and 800nits peak brightness. The display on the phone also uses Apple’s Ceramic Shield material for improved durability.

Apple has equipped the Apple iPhone 16e with the 3nm A18 chip, which first appeared on the iPhone 16 in September 2024, paired with up to 512GB of storage. The company doesn’t typically disclose the amount of RAM on its smartphones, but we can assume it has 8GB of RAM, as it provides support for Apple’s intelligence features.

Apple iPhone 16e features a 48-megapixel rear camera with optical image stabilization (OIS), and the handset also has a 12-megapixel TrueDepth camera on the front for selfies and video calls. It also includes the sensors necessary for Face ID, instead of the Home button that had Touch ID on the third-generation iPhone SE.

You get stereo speakers on the Apple iPhone 16e and the handset offers 5G, 4G LTE, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.3, NFC, and GPS connectivity. It also offers support for Apple’s Emergency SOS via satellite feature in select areas. Unlike its predecessor, it has a USB Type-C port, which supports 18W wired charging and 7.5W wireless charging.

Apple doesn’t reveal the battery specifications of its smartphones, but these details are likely to be revealed as part of a device teardown in the coming days. The handset has an IP68 rating for dust and water resistance. It measures 146.70×71.50×7.80mm and weighs 167.00g.
